Changing Spirits - Furselves.

Chapter 43: Journey's End.

Six Months and Two Days Later - Rochester, NY

Jacqueline Hyacinth Rosales sighs softly as she drops the moving box onto the hallway floor of their fifth floor apartment with a quiet thud. The woman with black and curly hair down the her mid-back, dressed in jeans and a white t-shirt, gives her partner a smile.

"That was the last of it. I thanked Miles profusely and gave him the hundred we agreed on - though he tried to decline it - since he still has quite the drive back home tonight."

The move several states up had been quite the ride, and not without it's issues. But here they are, in their new home, keys in hand, everything they own in with them. Including certain magical fursuits.

Home.

Funny how that word used to just mean the place one crashed for most nights.

She glances around their new place. An older building, though recently renovated to be more up to building standards of this century, with a lot of open space around what could be described as a combined living room, dining room and kitchen, with no walls in between. Several bedrooms, only one of which they currently have a solid plan what to do with - getting a bed big enough to basically be the room. Rest could be used as crafting space, or home office, or whatever.

That all could wait, though.

She steps closer to her girlfriend, taking her hands in hers.

Roanne Rosie Burke, she just had to have a flowery name in there once she heard her partner pick out Hyacinth, settles down the last of the boxes along with Jacqueline's. Her own hair has ruddied into deep orangey-red, which she is currently wearing straight, letting it drape down her shoulders. Her face spotted with freckles, which some swear seem to glow when she smiles, but that's surely just her warm expression. She's not dressed much better at the moment, comfortable in some basic moving attire.

"He's the best, and earned a hundred times that just for putting up with us through all this. We'll have to send him a thank you gift."

She readily leans in, squeezing Jac's hand as she surveys their new domain. "Not bad. A little bit of decorating and time here and it'll be all ours."

Jacqueline giggles softly: "Also high enough to be private, with basically no one's balconies pointing this way. Though we'll keep our drapes closed anyway when we get in fur~."

Roanne smirks, looking over everything with a sigh, "I'll miss your old place, but it's not going to take much to make this place 'ours'. And we've got way friendlier neighbors too." A few folks from the RFC lived in the same apartment complex, recommending it and even helping get the paperwork approved for their applications over the long distance negotiations. She giggles, "We finally made it. The other side we've always been looking for."

Jacqueline nods: "Yeah... I will miss the big old shower, but I won't miss all the upkeep stuff. If I don't have to mow a lawn again, I'll be content."

Roanne giggles, "I just paid someone to mow my tiny city lawn. But it's a very good point. The big shower though... I don't know if Cindi and Akari will both fit in this one. But at least both Jacqueline and Roanne will~."

Jacqueline smirks and leans for a small peck on the lips: "Mm, let's get at least our clothes and towels unpacked before we jump into that~."

Roanne blushes at the kiss, raising her hands innocently, "Hey, I wasn't suggesting we jump into anything! Now... If we just happen to need a shower, I'm just saying it would be more efficient..." She trails off, then turns to start sorting through the boxes. "But yes, you're right."

Jacqueline smirks: "Besides, if I know you, and myself, at all... I think we both want to sort out what we ended up moving here with." She motions vaguely at the near-roomful of boxes and travel-disassembled furniture. "And at least get our mattresses on the floor and ready."

As it happened, they didn't really have a proper big bed to use between them, and decided to get a new one. Unfortunately, the delivery for it is still a week away.

...fortunately, the two have already slept about every other night in-fur, which is considerably more comfortable when other furnishings are in short supply.

Roanne glances over the boxes and nods, "No food, that's for sure. We can order our first New York pizza tonight while we get stuff sorted."

Jacqueline giggles and her stomach growls in agreement: "...yeah, I think we set our beddings, change clothes, and head out for pizza. Do the essential part of scouting the location and seeing if our block's pizza place is good or not." She steps over towards the kitchen and opens the fridge door: "And you know, get some basics in here. I think we're going to be busy today without involving fur at all before we sleep..."

Roanne nods, glancing towards the very lovingly packed travel cases containing the fursuits. "A shame... But there's going to be plenty of time for that. This place just feels right, you know?" She starts flipping through boxes, in search of any of their elusive sundries. "But the more we get finished now, the less for later. And having somewhere to actually sleep is probably a good plan. I'm just glad Akari thinks sleeping on the floor is sorta fun. Though, the proximity of Cindi might color that opinion."

Jacqueline smiles, nodding as she spreads her arms: "This all feels like it's ours, and not just 'living where we have to', you know?"

Roanne nods, "Ours. And not just ours because we chose it, but we chose it together. It's ours! Not your place or my place. Our place. Together." She can't help but grin excitedly.

Jacqueline grins: "I've been excited about this for a month now, but maybe just maybe I can sit down for a pizza without jittering in place."

Roanne pulls out some towels from a box with an excited "Aha!" Before turning back to grin at Jac', "Me too. This... Is everything I've wanted. You are everything I've ever wanted." She smiles wide, starting to tear up. "And more."

Jacqueline nods, swallowing slightly. "Y-yeah. We made it. Together. You're... You're my everything, Roanne."

Roanne puts the towels aside to return to her girlfriend, pulling her into a hug. "We made it. Jacqueline. It's not been a bad journey to get here, scary and difficult sometimes, but we're certainly lucky."

Jacqueline hugs back: "Y-yeah, no kidding. Magically medical transitions and all that." She sniffs softly and whispers: "I am so happy we made it."

Roanne laughs through her tears, "You'll think I'm silly, but while you've certainly gotten much prettier over the past few months, I always thought you were beautiful."

Jacqueline blushes: "... Well, maybe a smidge silly." She smiles: "After all, you're the gorgeous redhead here."

Roanne squishes against Jac' to kiss her, "Yeah, I guess I am~." She pulls back slowly, returning to her task of unpacking the towels with a blush.

Jacqueline turns to a nearby box labeled 'kitchen stuff' and starts idly unpacking some of the bigger pots and pans, starting to figure out where to put them. "We're both pretty. And... So are Akari and Cindi."

Roanne grins, "We are. And they are. Which means we're doubly so~."

Jacqueline grins in mirror: "Well I said it before", she lifts a hand to her chest: "Jacqueline-" She motions at the carefully packed luxury suitcase: "-Cindi, and if you mean both, Hyacinth." She's explained her name theory many times, but seems to also get a certain kind of satisfaction out of it every time.

Roanne hums, turning to stare at Jacqueline happily, "Hyacinth is definitely double sexy~. I just wanted to match the flowery theming. I don't know how much of me wasn't Akari... She's just who I wanted to be. And now, I am! Minus the fur and tail and snout and other cute details."

Jacqueline winks: "I don't know, those antlers would look good on you like this too." She hums: "Though granted you'd need to wear a cap for your coming job interview. So maybe not."

Roanne reaches her hands up to pose them like mock antlers to the side of her face, "You think so? Hmm. In this town they might see the antlers as a perk. There's a lot of Real Fur folk here, just can't be sure who~"

Jacqueline giggles: "Call it a hunch, but maybe better to use the hidden channels for that. Even if most everyone would think it a costume piece."

Roanne lowers her hands, "So I shouldn't wear the headpiece to the interview, and I shouldn't seek a way to grow antlers. At least not until they've already hired me. I think that sounds reasonable." She sticks her tongue out at Jacqueline.

Jacqueline sticks her tongue right back: "Well yes, obviously. Gotta make a professional first impression, you know. Afterwards, unless they specifically have a rule against growing antlers, go ahead."

Roanne crosses her arms, "Well, I don't think I want to work for a company that has a rule against that. But we shall see. What about your interview? Not going with moth wings slipped on, yes?"

Jacqueline giggles with a blush: "Er, probably not. Especially since I'm making them bigger." She had, in fact, looked up how to modify and influence the furry side, and had worked growing the winglets both bigger, and also softer and more comfortable to lean on. Project still very much underway, and postponed due to the move. Physical reality unfortunately said flying with them would likely be impossible, but she can always look more majestic and adorable.

Roanne drops her posture back to her relaxed stance, looking at Jacqueline admiringly, "They'll look amazing once they're done... I'm... a little eager to see how it all works, though I don't know if I'll do anything with Akari. Beyond more dresses."

Jacqueline smiles: "I uh... I hope so, and I'm not being too ambitious. Not much actual... well, documented science behind what I'm doing."

Roanne giggles, "Because there's so much other science involved in how all of this has worked, yes."

Jacqueline grins sheepishly: "Well, obviously. Next you're going to claim we just spontaneously started growing boobs or something."

Roanne looks down at her quite heavy chest, "Well, it wasn't quite spontaneously, but they certainly grew."

Jacqueline giggles, glancing at her somewhat more modest but still certainly obvious forms: "...yeah, no kidding. Still weird if I overthink about it."

Roanne nods, "It all is... but I figured out real fast to not think too hard and just go with it. But... it was all what I really wanted, so that was easy. And apparently my subconcious mind really wanted big boobs."

Jacqueline hums, glacing at Roanne's 'assets': "Mm... good thing I don't mind you having them either~."

Roanne blushes, but the smile on her face remains, "Then we both win~." She takes a moment to bounce her boobs, before turning back to the boxes in an effort to remain on focus with their task.

Jacqueline laughs, then shakes her head: "Let's get our kitchen and wardrobe together, at least. Then we can be off for our first date in the city."

Roanne giggles, throwing one of the towels at Jacqueline playfully, "That sounds like a perfect plan~."

Jacqueline catches the towel, smirking: "And probably get in fur when we get back home." She hums: "...home, indeed."

Roanne nods, "Gotta get the feel for the place in fur too, yeah~. It feels good to hear that."

Jacqueline nods, leaning back on a kitchen counter and sighing happily. "As long as our respective interviews go well, and why wouldn't they... we're really good now."

Roanne hums, continuing to dig through boxes, "Yeah... and even if not, we've got a really good nest egg now from selling my house. We're in a good position."

Jacqueline smiles: "Yeah." She sighs happily again before continuing digging as well.

Roanne glances back, "We're both... really, really happy. Maybe I shouldn't speak for you, but... I'm happier than I think I ever have been."

Jacqueline nods slowly: "...well, I don't disagree, so you're fine speaking for me on this."

Roanne winks, "I kinda guessed so. I'm just so excited to see what's next~"

Jacqueline hums, then nods sagely.

"Pizza."

Roanne giggles, "With all the toppings."

Jacqueline smirks: "Naturally."
