RESPITE FALLS - WESTERN QUARTER - MID-MORNING
----------------------------------------------
Nesseth makes his way through the Saur section of the town's up-and-coming housing and budding marketplace extension, having been assigned to a new section of a patrol route for the first time in a good while. He seems quite cheerful as he exchanges greetings with Saurs here and there, though he's also obviously on duty during a routine patrol, as he's dressed in a set of lightweight gear, with a most familiar crossbow slung on his back.
Narrator: New to the ways Respite constructs their dwellings, Dyvrisse is spending her morning observing the workers at a construction site, keeping to herself. Without Aerdrid present, she isn't comfortable helping, but she can at least the time at least getting an idea of what will be expected of her. There isn't much else for her to do. She tends not to let her gaze waver, though one of the guards patrolling the area invokes a sense of familiarity. She can't place it immediately, but she allows her gaze to fixate on the lizard.
Nesseth passes by a construction site for a house that's currently being built, and he calls a greeting to the folks nearby, complete with a cheerful wave of the hand. However, as he continues on, he feels a sensation of eyes on him, and he looks around towards the construction site again with an air of curiosity. His frills flex a bit as he slows down to look around, though upon seeing Dyvrisse gazing at him, he raises a hand again in greeting, though they might be a little too far apart at the moment.
Dyvrisse doesn't wave back to Nesseth. Something about the guard continues to bother her - Not that Dyvrisse is particularly warm and welcoming at the best of times. Her gaze keeps fixated on Nesseth, studying both him and his crossbow for several moments, until, "Armoured One." She talks to herself, though not that quietly.
Nesseth is a little perturbed by the Saur's gaze, but blinks upon recognizing the hulking form of Dyvrisse after a few seconds of silence. He tilts his head a bit, glancing around on reflex before his gaze meets her's again. He's definitely surprised at her coming to town, considering what the two last spoke of some time back, but also curious as to why she's here.
Dyvrisse remains silent. As activity in the construction site behind Nesseth resumes, her gaze moves away from him to the workers.
Nesseth hums thoughtfully, still gazing at Dyvrisse, only to decide to make his way (carefully) across the construction site towards the Saur. As he approaches into earshot, he calls out. "Dyvrisse? When did you get here? I thought you went out elsewhere with the others?"
Dyvrisse tenses up somewhat as Nesseth approaches. "Armoured One." Dyvrisse greets, though keeps her gaze on the construction site. "A cycle ago. Copse does not need me any longer."
Nesseth moves up to a free spot nearby and turns to face the construction as well, casually leaning against a wooden workbench. "So you've decided to join the others here in Respite, then?" He turns his head a bit and gives Dyvrisse a bit of a smile, "Welcome to Respite Falls, in that case."
Dyvrisse: "For how long, uncertain." Dyvrisse turns slightly to look back at Nesseth. "Your welcome is. . .Appreciated." Dyvrisse states, though the welcome doesn't seem to ease her any.
Nesseth shrugs a little, understanding the notion of maybe not necessarily staying in one spot for too long. "Well... for however long you're here, I'm hoping it's a peaceful stay for you."
Dyvrisse: "Armoured One." Dyvrisse replies, "Your sentiments are kind, but they confuse me. What reasons do you have for conversing and being cordial with I?"
Nesseth tilts his head a bit at the question. "We're not enemies anymore, you and I. We were, once... but even during that time, there was a span where we both shared a goal, remember?"
Dyvrisse: "We may not be enemies, but I find it hard to believe you would be a friend." Dyvrisse replies. "So I ask again."
Nesseth chuckles a bit, though there's a lack of a smile accompanying it. "Well, no, we wouldn't be friends immediately, Dyvrisse. I'm willing to be cordial, so that we can maybe eventually become friends, but I'm not so crazy as to assume we'd be able to move past everything before in just one conversation." He looks over at Dyvrisse again for a few moments, then sighs, "I used to hold a hell of a grudge against Snakes, you know... folks like Louma and Xochi, both of whom you've met. But... a couple of years ago, I've learned to let go of those grudges. They don't solve anything, and it weighs on one's soul. I don't want to repeat that mistake, if I can help it... which is why I'm here now, chatting with you."
Dyvrisse: "Hm." Dyvrisse voices, looking back to the construction site. "Wise it is, to move on. But I am not one for much talk."
Nesseth nods as he likewise looks towards the construction site again. "Mmh, nothing wrong with that, really. There are a lot of folks who prefer keeping to themselves and living quiet lives."
Dyvrisse remains silent for a few moments. "Armoured One." She breaks the silence, "I am curious. Your perspective. Do you have regrets in the war, those of your own actions?"
Nesseth blinks at the question, then looks over at Dyvrisse again. "Regrets? A few, I think, yes. Things I could have said differently to a few folks, or people that might still be around, Respite and Saur alike, if I did things differently."
Dyvrisse: "Do those weigh on your soul?" Dyvrisse follows up, still looking towards the workers.
Nesseth hums quietly. "Some do still, though it's gotten better over time. Talking helps me think it through, I find."
Dyvrisse: "Hm." Dyvrisse hums again, contemplating. Talk, but to whom?
Nesseth kind of gazes off into the distance again. "One thing I've learned lately is that I can only think through something so much before I start going in circles. Another perspective always helps, especially if it's from someone you can trust to be honest."
Dyvrisse takes in a deeper breath, sighing it out. "Circles. . ." She muses out loud. That is what she has been experiencing. "Surprising, Armoured One is."
Nesseth blinks out of his slight reverie and gives Dyvrisse a curious look. "I... am?"
Dyvrisse: "Mm." Dyvrisse lowly hums. "Advice, from an unexpected place. Unexpected person."
Nesseth lets out an uncertain, singular chuckle, "Uh, heh... glad to help?" He runs a hand over his head a bit, idly messing with his frill, "We might have been on opposite sides, but we've gone through similar experiences... I can't say I understand everything, but if I can help, I'll do what I can."
Dyvrisse: "Very compassionate of you, but I must decline. You may be ready to move on, but I am not. I will seek someone else. But, I do thank you."
Nesseth nods, accepting the statement. "If anything, you can consider it an open offer, Dyvrisse. Just from one warrior to another, I hope you're able to find peace one day." He pauses for a moment, then adds, "...And if you want, you can call me Nesseth."
Dyvrisse: "Very well, Nesseth." Dyvrisse glances to Nesseth, "If I may be alone with my thoughts." She attempts to farewell politely, given that she has no intention of leaving the construction site at the moment.
Nesseth nods again, giving Dyvrisse a small smile as he catches the hint. He stands up away from the wall and gives the Saur a small, courteous salute. "Of course, Dyvrisse. Take care, and maybe I'll see you around town here and there while you're with us." He dips his head again as he finishes his salute, then turns to take his leave and resume his patrol.
Dyvrisse gives a simple nod back to Nesseth, then resumes her attention on the construction site.
