RESPITE FALLS - SAUR NEIGHBORHOOD - AFTERNOON
----------------------------------------------
Endrit wanders back out of the North Gate after arriving, curious of the really new looking houses just outside of what seemed to be a much older wall. He's got a trunk gripped in his hand, casually dragging the large bit of luggage through the unfinished street, and one more trunk swaying in front of his vested torso. The elephant towers over many of the saurs as he passes them, giving them as strange looks as he receives.
Xochi makes her way through the new Saur quarters, having made a short test flight from her home to the wall, she lands carefully and begins to slither through the street. A lot of the construction was completed while she was 'gone', and it still amazes her at the progress. Many of the saur greet her as well, and Xochi returns the greetings, recognizing many of them. As she makes the loop back towards the wall, she spots the large Elephant walking through the streets. With hands folded in front her she smiles at the stranger, "Greetings."
Endrit blinks at Xochi, raising his free hand in a slight wave. "Oh okay I see. All the reptilians here are more feathery than scaley. Got it." He looks about. "So are you all weird refugees from Orela or...?"
Xochi blinks at the somewhat blunt question, but shakes her head with a chuckle, "Oh, no. I do hail from Orela originally, but these fine folks call themselves the Saur. They are native to this continent, and seeking a new life here after... well, it is something best not to dwell on, especially out in the streets. I am Xochi."
Endrit grunts quietly, nodding with a dull expression. "Got it. So Xochi? Wait... I recognize that... Maybe? Probably not. I'm Endrit from Odonga, a guard but not any longer. Should I be worried about whatever it is you don't want to talk about in the street?"
Xochi shakes her head, "No, it is simply a matter of a painful past... beyond that, things are quite calm in recent memory. I have heard much of Odonga but never been there myself."
Endrit shifts his luggage and his trunk, reaching into his pocket as he steps a bit closer to Xochi. "It is nearly combines with Orela, so that is surprising. But the way you reptile types all kind of split yourselves up, suppose it makes a bit of sense. I'd have stayed but the Explorers guild needed an extra pair of hands and well... Travel is always fun, better when it's paid for."
Xochi laughs, hissing quietly to herself, "Welcome to your vacation destination, Endrit. I do hope you enjoy your work here, then."
Endrit chuckles, nodding. "I hope so. Guarding caravans is dull, though. Is there anything better to do around here? An arena?"
Xochi points back towards the main town, in the direction of the guard barracks, "The town guards have their own training grounds. I do not think they mind outsiders coming to practice, but you will have to ask their permission. Beyond that... there are often performers in the market square, and a Lorekeeper is in attendance at the town library."
Endrit glances that way, humming. "Oh, suppose I can challenge someone. I was more interested in well... Betting. Nevermind. Libraries and I don't get along, in general." He sighs. "What do you do to keep busy in this place?"
Xochi chuckles, "Me? I garden, mostly. There are a few taverns but I do not partake much. I am ah... was? I was retired, which left me with a great deal of time to read."
Endrit nods, perking up a bit. "A tavern, huh? Well if I get the chance... Gardening here? I was told this was right on edge of a desert... I suppose you like the challenge?"
Xochi smirks, "It's not so bad. There is plenty of water here thanks to the waterfall and the spring. Venture further out west and the land is arid and dry. More barren, unfarmable."
Endrit pulls a crumpled letter from his pocket, though he only gives it a glancing look. "So you've been here for a while, huh? To have a garden going. Got your own house, even?"
Xochi nods. "Only a few years, but yes. My home is small, but it is all I need."
Endrit: "A few years? I bet you ran into another elephant, yeah? She's only been here a few years as well. Wrote this letter. Her name's Brunilda."
Xochi glances at the letter, "Hmm, yes, I believe so. I have certainly seen her around town, but I do not know her terribly well."
Endrit hums, looking at the letter again before stowing it away. "Oh. Well, suppose I will run into her eventually."
Xochi nods, "I am sure of it. It is a growing town, but it still feels rather small sometimes."
Endrit chuckles. "A lot of places feel small to me, Xochi."
Xochi laughs again, hissing harshly at the private joke, "Ahh, I would say it feels that way to me as well, but I feel much smaller these days."
Endrit laughs in turn, nodding. "That looks true! Hope the cheapest inn has some decent rooms."
Xochi flaps her wings idly, bowing to Endrit, "I can show you the way to a few if you wish. Else, I suppose I should stop being a nuisance and let you be on your way."
Endrit noticed the saurs having to skirt around the two standing in the street talking. "Both of us are nuising these saur people, I think. I'd appreciate a bit of guiding, lead the way!"
Xochi chuckles, "Yes. You are rather large and I am rather long." She slithers around Endrit, coming up to his side and leading back towards town, "Most of the inns are just outside the market, and one of the more popular is the Thirsty Minnow..."
