JUST OUTSIDE OF BAIRNELL'S FOOTHOLD - MID-MORNING

----------------------------------------------

Ninell strides alongside one of the forward wagons in the caravan, the train of transports having just left the gate out of Bairnell not too long ago. Having found a bit of a liking for the baked goods some of the locals produce, he's currently munching on a sweet bun of bread, with a few more stowed in his pack for the road ahead.

Itzcali slinks about, before hauling himself up unto one of the wagons, and curling up, facing the front. He gives a wavy out to Ninell "Everything good so far? You might want to get off your feet. Long way to go after all!"

Ninell lifts the hand with his snack in a gesture of acknowledgement to Itzcali. "I'll walk for now. My kind are built for distance, so some hours of walking will not trouble me very much."

Itzcali: "Suit yourself!" He flicks the end of his tail "I'm not really made for distance. 'specially not on hard ground. Much more suited for sitting on top of the carriage and like..keeping look out or something. So I'm not being totally useless and stuff"

Ninell chuckles a bit as he takes a bite out of his snack again. "A lookout or two is always good, even if it's as boring as general guard duty most times."

Mirriam approaches the caravan from the rear, vaguely familiar to the rearmost wagon driver. Her cinnamon fur sleek and shining in the sun, it's smooth appearance contrasted by the roughly unkempt look to her green and white uniform, jacket flapping open where two huge twin satchels can't pin it to her sides, pants wrinkled and held up by hand, the suspenders flopping pointlessly at her sides. She pauses at a couple carts before rocketing ahead in her sprint, coming up to Itzcali's ride and looking to Ninell with a huff. "Gale?! Gale Westfold? No? Yes??" She looks up at Itzcali. "You Gale? Who's Gale?" While she's asking, she finally manages to slip one suspender up onto her right shoulder, tangling it with her satchel strap, but not seeming to care at the moment.

Itzcali: "It's not toooo bad, so long as you've got something you can stop yourself getting bored with while staying lookin' out. Spent many a time just waiting for a good chance to slip by guards, so I had to learn to outlast boredom" He then stops "....Uh, no Gale here? Not that I know everyone in the Caravan"

Ninell is about to answer Itzcali with a question of his own when Mirriam's approach makes him tilt his head, giving them a bit of a strange look at how... out of sorts they seem to be. "No, I'm Ninell, and the snake is Itzcali."

Mirriam lets out a rather sharp *tsk*, shaking her head before taking off for the front of the caravan.

Itzcali: "Well, that was odd" He stops to look at what's gonna happen, for he is a noseysnek

Ninell follows Itzcali's curious look, Mirriam's passage definitely being one of the more interesting events since the caravan set out. He nods in agreement. "Quite odd... Delivery person, maybe?"

Mirriam reaches the lead cart, receiving much the same reaction when she asks. The cart behind them seems to speak up, the kangaroo standing still enough for them to catch her up. She jumps into the cart without much effort, the 6' roo rocking it on landing. She doesn't waste much time unloading three small parcels into the driver's lap.

Itzcali: "Huh. Dedicated to her job, if nothing else"

Mirriam hops back out of the cart, standing by the road and adjusting her satchels until Ninell and Itzcali pull even with her. "Itzcali?" She looks at Ninell. "You said Itzcali? You're Itzcali?"

Itzcali: "I am! Yes! Wait..I mean.."

Itzcali: "Who's asking?" Maybe he doesn't want to be Itzali!

Ninell shakes his head. "I'm not Itzcali. I said I'm Ninell." He nods his head towards Itzcali, "He is."

Mirriam looks up to the snake that claims to be Itzcali, humming for a brief moment before her big-pawed legs send her up to the cart, giving him a look. "I am. Mirriam is asking. You have post. Well, if you're Itzcali, are ya? Said you are, then you're not, but he says y'are." She pulls a letter from her satchel, little more than a folded up piece of parchment, with 'Its Calee' scrawled on the outside.

Itzcali: "Well, I suppose" He takes the letter "I'm still not confirming I'm Itzcali ,but I'm taking the letter anyway"

Mirriam grips the letter, glaring at Itzcali. "Either y'are, or y'aren't getting the letter."

Itzcali: "Fiiiine, I'll say I'm Itzcali"

Ninell gives Itzcali a bit of a look. "I'm not a guard here, but I'm pretty sure taking mail that isn't yours is something you can get thrown in prison for."

Mirriam nods with Ninell's assertion. "The handsome strange man is right. It's addressed. Barely, but is." She relinquishes the letter anyhow, hopping down from the cart to walk alongside the caravan while rummaging with her face close to the satchel on her right. "Some people don't know it, though! Thank you for confirming his face, Ninell. Very helpful."

Itzcali: "Well, lets see what this is about. I'm guessing its a threat of some sort..." He reads it!

Ninell hums and nods. "Glad to be of assistance, miss. My friend here acts a little too quickly sometimes, and makes folks suspicious without reason."

Itzcali: "Oh, they have plenty of reason~"

Narrator: The letter is very sloppily written, for what few characters it has. 'Where? Jade!' With an arrow pointing to a rather decently drawn trio of rings. The bottom corner is signed with a jagged crescent-shaped character, a bit too ovaled and backwards to be a C.

Itzcali: "Hmm. Nothing to worry about" He pockets the letter "Just a business friend, wrapping up a small detail from town"

Mirriam huffs, snapping the satchel closed and shaking her head. "Good way to get in trouble, ami! Tsk! But he knows, hm? Must know, by now, too old for games. Too young for wisdom, maybe? What're you, not-Itzcali? 18-ish? Look long enough to be, mm."

Itzcali: "uhhh" He flicks his tail "Sounds about right! Honestly, lost track there for a bit, so I'm not sure. But like..yeah, give or take a year or two"

Mirriam hums, shrugging after a moment. "Eh, you'll recall some day. What about you, venn? Never seens someone looking like you do. Your brothers all as handsome as you, mm? Single, too? Probably not. Who's the lucky one?"

Ninell raises an eyebrow at Mirriam. "Uh... no, not married. You've not seen my kind before because we've barely gone beyond our homeland of Eukune in the past." He shrugs a bit, "We all look similar to this."

Mirriam grins, nodding. "Oh, that will go over well in Respite! Some good news for everyone~! She giggles, pulling her other suspender strap up and starting to adjust her clothes to be more in line. "Never heard of Eukune though. Never heard of saurs either. Only reason I'm lagging back." She looks between Ninell and Itzcali. "Didja hear? Big 'n scary! What with spears and everything, hunting caravans 'n taking all the women!"

Ninell tilts his head. "I've not heard of anything beyond the caravans being down, and even that I've only heard of after the route opened up again. I'm here because of... well, hopefully something else that might be tied to all these other events."

Mirriam tugs her shirt straight, managing to readjust her suspenders to be untangled from her satchels before she starts fiddling with the forest green coat. "Oh? Like what, a hero or some?" She looks up to Itzcali. "You a hero too?"

Itzcali: "Uhh, Some have called me a hero, yes" He remarks, non-comittally

Ninell shakes his head at the question. "Not really, no. I'm just an investigator right now, not really looking to pull any real heroism other than to just figure out what all has been going on."

Mirriam hums, buttoning her jacket up to one spot below her neck. Once all done up, other than the wrinkles, she'd look fairly sharp for a courier. "Oh? Interesting. A land I never heard of is interested in the goings on of a land many others have never heard of. And I thought I had the best rumors!"

Ninell hums quietly, nodding. "Well, we've known of the other lands for a while, just not much else. There's been a recent event at home that came from outside, and a few of us have been sent out to figure out what is going on."

Mirriam nods, patting her satchels like she's made a decision. "Well I've been away a few months, family in Sarn and all. BUT I know a few folks 'round Respite, could point you in the right direction! What's yer home like? Always like meeting new faces."

Ninell smiles a bit as he starts to tell Mirriam about his homeland a bit, painting a rather nice picture of temperate woodlands bordered on the north by slightly more arid areas. He avoid really talking about why he's here now, since he needs to figure out more about the strange weather patterns his land has been experiencing, like specifically where a bloody giant dragon came from.
