RESPITE MARKETPLACE - AFTERNOON
----------------------------------------------
Jennica is sitting on her stall's side table (having gotten up there after some considerable effort, seeing as she's whole two feet shorter now), dangling her legs off the edge as she fiddles with a piece of metal she hopes to craft into a trinket of some sort eventually. The cow-turned kobold is in a cheery mood as she focuses on her craft.
Trixie Locksmith had her stall set up not far off from the blacksmiths, just across the way really. After all, in her line of work they would become rather useful, especially now as she reached for her last cog. "Well this isn't good..." She paused her work on a pocket watch that had broken down for a local. Her gaze flickered up and a gleam flashed in her bandit racoon eyes. Lifting up her magnifying goggles she moved across the street, "Hey there. Hiya? Howdy?" She certainly didn't sound local, "I uh, wonder if you do small pieces? I'm Trixie, work across the way, bit of a mechanic, well I am a mechanic."
Jennica blinks and looks up... and then down, seeing someone more her (current) size. She pauses before realizing to form a greeting: "O-oh! Hey there." She puts her current thinkpiece-trinket down on the table next to her and smiles: "I uh... well, not really a mechanic, more of an... enchanter, I guess? Sort of." She gestures at her stall of small trinkets and magi-gizmos, tiny enhancers to one's day and night in various odd ways that the signs next to them may or may not proper explain... writing with kobold claws is hard, okay?
Trixie Locksmith blinked and looked puzzled for a moment but then her maw spread into a grin, "Oh, oh wait sorry, I uh thought you were a blacksmith, sorry still learning the ins and outs of respite falls but uh...may I?" Her small hand went out to tenatively reach for the trinket the crafter put down. Curious to admire the work.
Jennica shrugs with a smile: "Y-yeah, feel free to." She glances around the tent-with-tables she's in: "I uh... well, not much of a blacksmith, no. Just kinda using whatever small scraps I get to mend with."
Trixie Locksmith picked up the trinket and pulled her goggles over her eyes observing them close but not able to quite distinguish what it does. Then again she never had a full handle on magic, "So... what does it do? What kinda magic are we talking?" She asked curiously, always open to the idea of new possible business ventures. Just then the little silver ball in her hand began to shine light that changed to a green color. She frowned curiously and it brightened not realizing the green color reflected her curious mood.
Jennica looks at the orb, pausing before recalling: "O-oh! Yeah, uh that one sorta attunes to your mood. Slightly emphasizes it... um, d-don't have it on your hand if you're angry. You'll throw it at someone." Totally not speaking from any experience or anything, of course.
Trixie Locksmith fingers scratched her fuzzy chin giving a nod and setting the item down, "Interesting, fascinating really...you know we could make something together, bet it will sell hot on the market, efficient and magical you know like uh...uh...oo, like a pocket watch that reflects a loved ones location, or a telescope that when turned detects heat, so you can use it in the dark? You can infuse the item with magic after I've got the gears to click into place making it duel effective!" Her dark eyes brightened and her tail bushed up with a flicker of hope the ball in her palm turning yellow.
Jennica blinks at the flood of words, feeling conflicted. "O-oh, um... I uh... d-dangit, I sort of am already kinda cooperating with someone, although it's been quiet lately and I guess I can..." She shoves the idea about revealing a loved one's location to the back of her mind, no breaking down in tears right now thank you very much. She manages a smile instead: "M-maybe. I can just sort of... mold metal a bit, persuade it. But can't make much in terms of mechanisms..."
Trixie Locksmith smirked appearing confident as ever. "That's where I come in...stay right there." She scampered off to her own stall and opened up a trunk that she began to sort through with care before coming back, "Check this out." She put what looked like a toy dragonfly on the counter and turned a small key that jutted out of it's back. There was a bit of a ticking but then the dragonfly began to rise, hovering for a moment with quick beating wings before dropping back down. "Ain't she a beaut?"
Jennica looks at Trixie go, but can't really form much of a thought before she's back with the dragonfly. "Ooh... that's pretty." She tilts her head: "...think it lacks wingpower though." She blinks: "S-sorry!"
Trixie Locksmith gave a nod but her spirits were not dampened, "Well it's a children's toy, meant for simple short up and down motion. I had one that went higher, longer, but well, uh there we a lot of upset parents. Heh." She scratched the back of her head slightly in embarrassment. "Kids, bit too clever for there own good. 1"
Jennica nods at that, looking at the dragonfly intently as the proverbial gears turn in her head: "Hmm... maybe not more powerful flight, unless it could be..." She looks at her pile of trinkets, thinking: "...there has to be something it can be made to carry or deliver, right?"
Trixie Locksmith leaned against the counter that was part of Jennica's stall, "Like a box?" She asked curiously. Her bushy tail brushed back and forth, still bushed up with the excitement of what could be.
Jennica stares at the trinkets a moment longer, then shrugs: "...maybe. Maybe something... intangible. A feeling... a mood. A spell? Although that goes mostly outside my reach..." She shakes her head, then smiles at Trixie: "I'm sure we can, uh, come up with something."
Trixie Locksmith gave a nod, "Yeah, we can figure out something. So how long have you been here in Respite?" She asked, perhaps she should make some kind of attempt at gaining a friend.
Jennica blinks, thinking as she lifts a claw to her chin: "Um... a few months... or a few months more than that?" She shrugs: "Seasons don't really change here much."
Trixie Locksmith ears flattened with a bit of dismay, "Hmm, well this place certainly ain't like the big city." She was used to the hustle and bustle, the cooler climate, and not all this damn sand! "So you got a name?"
Jennica blinks dumbly: "O-oh! Yeah. Jennica. I make trinkets, but I suppose you know that already." She scratches her neck nervously, socializing still not exactly her biggest forte.
Trixie Locksmith gave a nod, "Well pleasure to meet you, maybe we can go get a drink or something after everyone closes up shop." She scooped up her little dragonfly and with a nod moved back to her own stall as she noticed a potential customer approach out of the corner of her eye, "Madam, how good to see you, how may I be of service?" She asked, voice trailing off.
Jennica nods at Trixie, noting her current lack of customers... which she is deep down somewhat fine with, even if it makes no financial sense. She returns to her tinkering soon enough, but maybe having made (another) tinkerer friend in this town...?
