RESPITE FALLS - DRESSED UP CLOTHING WAREHOUSE - MID-AFTERNOON

Maybelline steps into the 'clothing warehouse' on her lunch break, feeling a bit more confident about dressing up after her last date with Louma, though with absolutely no way to afford another Spider-silk piece, she still wants to add a little more variety to her wardrobe. Instead, she's found this place, offering some very basic bulk outfits shipped in from Sarn, Vamas, and Orela. Nothing fancy, but definitely more affordable.
Sammi was inside, trying to see what might suit her. She was dealing with one of the floor staff who was..well, she was totally lost. She knew what fit with any fuzzy creature, she could handle scales fairly well..but..whatever Sammi was..well, what went with purple..what ever sort of skin she had? Sammi at least was being pleasent enough, which probably made things worse for the poor staff member, along with the cluelessness. Just as May was wandering by, the staff member suddenly remembered "Oh! ah..I think I hear someone in the back needs their..uh..stove..changed!" and flees, leaving Sammi to peruse the shirts herself, until she notices May! "Oh! Hey! How are you doing? I'm just trying to get an outfit to surprise Gareth with when he gets back"
Maybelline tilts her head as the employee doesn't quite but almost flees the floor, then smiles, waving a bit, "Oh um, Sammi, right? I'm doing well! Mayfeld's starting to really be at home with us, so thanks again for introducing us! Just looking for a few outfits myself, for date nights, you know?"
Sammi: "Right! Stuff like that! I was reading this magazine that said that you should have clothes for your partner, and..well, I realized I don't really have clothes myself..so..." She brightens up "Maybe you can help! I want something pretty, but that Gareth would like too!"
Maybelline chuckles, "I uh, might not be the best person. I just wear... blue clothing? I own a lot of blue. I don't... I don't really know fashion. But Louma seems to like it, even though she's way prettier and a way better dresser than I am. I'm guessing Gareth is your boyfriend, then?"
Sammi: "Yeah! We've been hanging out for a while now. We both went to Sarn, and..well, now he's off doing that whole rescue thing. I was gonna come along..but..uh..me and violence don't get along"
Maybelline purses her lips, giving a slight nod, "I... I know those feelings, yeah." It takes her a moment to perk back up, "I'm sure he'll love whatever you pick out when he returns, yeah! Were you thinking of something casual, or a bit formal, or like... an outfit for um... more private time?"
Sammi: "There's a difference?" She blinks with confusion "Say..uh..what I've got now..would this be formal?"
Maybelline looks down at Sammi's outfit, which doesn't take terribly long since there's not much to it. "Noooo? No, sorry. That's more... swimsuit? Which makes sense. Kinda 'sexy', as it were. I mean, to me at least." She blushes just a touch. "I'm dressed a bit more 'work-casual', you see? If you want something that says 'formal wear', you'll probably want a dress, or a suit. Something like that back there." She points towards the selection of more traditional dress fashion.
Sammi: "Hm..hmm" She looks at them, thinking about it "Well..I'm not really very formal. Honestly, I'm super casual, so maybe no suits? Besides, they're all like..that dress, it'd get soggy. I need something that can get wet, and still look nice"
Maybelline hums, scratching her chin, "Well, most clothes don't have water in mind, sadly. They probably have some actual swimsuits in the back, though? Some folks like them. They always feel weird over my fur though."
Sammi: "Oh! Well..maybe there's something else..uh" She thinks. It really helps having someone to bounce ideas off! "Gareth has nice clothes..they're..uh..leathers, I think? But nice ones"
Maybelline glances around at the clothing, mostly clothes of various linen and silken materials, "There's gotta be a leatherworker somewhere around town? I uh... I actually don't know if you're supposed to get leather wet or not? It might just be a problem of finding something you like that's also a material durable enough to work in water... I mean, there's other water-folks out there, right? There's Bracvar, but I've not seen him in awhile."
Sammi: "Hmm. Well, it works for Gareth, and he's around the water the whole time" She ponders "But, I do like what he does, so whatever he gets..maybe something similar? That way we can match!"
Maybelline giggles, "Matching outfits could definitely be cute. I admit, it's fun to think about how your partner will react to an outfit. I'm still learning Louma's tastes, but um... I'm lucky cause I think she just likes 'me'. I'm sure Gareth feels the same about you, no matter the outfit. Sometimes it's just the thought that counts."
Sammi: "Yeah! It really is! That's why I don't want to just get something from my bag...because then it wouldn't really be thinking about it, it'd just be..like..getting a solution, which doesn't seem fun"
Maybelline tilts her head a moment, "From your... bag?" She waves that off though, "I used to hate clothes shopping, but I guess I never really had a reason to want to dress up. But you're right, when it's for something worth the effort, it's way more fun to spend the time picking out the right thing."
Sammi: "Yeah!" She nods in agreement "Say! Enough about me for a bit, what did you want to wear?"
Maybelline laughs a little awkwardly as Sammi throws the spotlight back at her, "Oh um, well... I was gonna get something formal, a little dressy, something special for when we do want to dress up a little. And maybe... something... a little more private..."
Sammi: "Ooh! I think I get it!" She nodnods, and picks up the first thing she sees off a nearby rack, and..well. It's certainly private use only..it's also a lot more daring that May likely would have gone with herself "Is it like this! See..it's even got these cute little sequins..."
Maybelline blinks, eyes going wide and blush brightening. "Uhhh... y-yeah, something very much like that..." The stoat may be rather conservative and shy about such things in public, but...
Sammi: "I'm sure Louma would love it! And I think you'd look great in it too!" She passes it over to May "Friends helping friends, isn't it fun?"
Maybelline takes the tiny piece covered in sequins carefully. "...even in my size... oh, yes. Very fun! I'll just um... hm." She feels a bit awkward just holding it out in the open, but eventually just shrugs. "Well, then I just need something a little more formal. Can take a look at the swimsuits too, maybe something will catch your eye?"
Sammi: "Yeah, maybe, that might work" She follows along humming to herself, a little curious why May is asking, but at least at this point she's canny enough to know that she won't get an answer just for asking. "So..it's clothing for meeting fancy people you need?"
Maybelline giggles, walking towards the dresswear, looking for a slightly fancier dinner dress, "More like, clothing for feeling fancy. I don't really care about meeting fancy people, if I'm doing that it's usually work related, so I just wear my work outfit. But for Louma, in addition to wanting to feel um..." She glances at the sequins in her hand. "...I'd also like have something special to wear to make her see how special I think she is. It's all about that effort and thought thing again."
Sammi: "Oh..this is about the lovemaking stuff" She nods, understanding, but a certain very narrow understanding that totally misses key details "I've been thinking about trying that with Gareth, if he wants"
Maybelline gawks a moment, but eventually gives a tiny nod. "It's not... all... sometimes it's just about enjoying each other's company. Going out for dinner together, dressed up nice and fancy. Makes the dinner feel extra special. H-honestly, I just like being together with Louma. As partners, and as friends, and... more. I guess... we can be an awful lot for each other, and sometimes the clothes just mix it up a little."
Sammi: "Okay, right" She nods again "That makes a lot of sense. I like being around Gareth, and Enker, and you too! Lots of people really. I even met Aelia, and Phoebe recently, and they were super nice too"
Maybelline nods, "I've got a lot of friends too, like Plume and Vix and Brunilda. And Louma is like... my best friend..." She picks out a short blue dress, probably picked out purely based on the color, and holds it up in front of her. "So like, most of my friends, I can just wear anyround and it's fine. But I like to wear something fancy when I go out with Louma. Because she makes me feel fancy and pretty... and I like to do my best to look fancy and pretty for her."
Sammi: "Hmm, blue is nice..but how about Green? Blue and green even go together!"
Maybelline checks the rack, looking for something in her size, pulling out another dress, green with sky blue accents along the waist and down the sleeves. She holds it in front of her, "More like this? I usually... just go with blue. But this seems nice."
Sammi: "I think it would be great!" She hmms a little, and considers it "Super cute! I'm pretty sure I know what cute looks like by now"
Maybelline considers the dress a moment, then glances at the price tag and shrugs. "Well, that's doable... I mean... sure. Sure, why not! It does look awfully cute."
Sammi: "Yup! I don't think dresses are my think, but they absolutely are yours!"
Maybelline is definitely not used to the idea of dresses much either, but... "Alright! Yeah. Thanks, Sammi. I think officially increasing my 'date night outfits' to two is a good step forward for me."
Sammi: "Oh! I know! Maybe once Gareth is back, I'll ask if all four of us could go out!"
Maybelline giggles, "We do double dates with Plume and Nesseth from time to time... we could always give it a try."
Sammi: "I bet it would be loads of fun!" She smiles, and nods along in agreement
Maybelline: "It definitely can be. A nice dinner out with friends, yes."
Sammi: "I don't think we should plan any further. It's bad luck to make big plans when someone is away doing something dangerous"
Sammi: "I can't remember..uh..it was something about flags"
Maybelline frowns, "Ahhh... right. We'll just file it under 'to do', then. When Gareth and the others return."
Sammi: "It'll be fine, I'm sure" She bobs her head, little head things bouncing behind her "Until then..leatherworking shop, right?"
Maybelline nods, "Yep. Let me just pay for this... and I can try to help you find somewhere..." She carries the dress and the undergarment with it towards the front desk.
Sammi comes along, looking at all the stuff. She has an idea coming in now, but wants to wait until it's done until she talks about it much.
Maybelline makes the purchase, only blushing a little as the cashier holds back a snerk at the sequined thing, paying in coin, and getting the items bagged in return. "Alright, then, let's go see what we can find!"
