GUARD TRAINING GROUNDS - LATE EVENING
----------------------------------------------
Garwin has never been much of a 'morning bear', waking up late and preferring the night shift. He's walking in his new armor, replacements for the stuff lost up on the mountain, just doing a bit of stretching and practicing the swing of the mace before he starts his first shift back on the wall.
Kira is on her way back into the town after refilling her supplies at the barracks following her initial rounds. Curiosity and current preoccupations lead her to look over the training grounds before heading out again. At the sight of Garwin training, she blinks a few times before fluttering down and landing on the head of the next dummy over. "Garwin? Are you whole again?"
Garwin hmms, then his expression brightens as he spots the moth nearby. He lets out a big belly laugh, "Now there's a sight for sore eyes! Kira! I mean, they say I'm whole again, and that new doctor seems mighty smart, so I guess I am!"
Kira gives a happy little laugh. "That's good! You were very grumpy when we were bringing you back to town. It was all we could do to get you to move in the right direction..." She flutters over and hugs Garwin part way around the neck.
Garwin sets his mace down and sits next to the training dummy, lifting a hand up to carefully pat Kira in reply. "D'aww. Missed you too, buddy. Sorry for any trouble I put you through..." He blinks, "You were there too, eh? All I've heard so far is that it was Cap'n and Nesseth."
Kira smiles at the careful pets. "Yes! It was quite an adventure. Me and Nesseth and Louma and the other two... Hansyl and... Nary I think was his name? He was quiet..." She flutters up from Garwin's shoulder and back up to where she left her lamp. "I helped find the flowers! And scout territory... and... I have good ears Nesseth says...."
Garwin nods, "Well, good work! Without those flowers, I'd have been stuck like that, whatever it was." He tilts his head, "Don't really remember it... not sure if that's good or bad though. Victoria's mad at me cause I don't, so I think I hurt her pretty badly, but, you know. In the head and the heart. Never been too good with those."
Kira frowns. "You have a good heart, Garwin. You're always so kind to me. Even like that, you never once tried to hurt me."
Garwin grins again, "Well, that's good to hear! You've always been a great friend, Kira! I'm glad you helped uh, light my way home." He points to her lamp and gives another big laugh.
Kira giggles. "I do what I can... but I want to do more! I want to help my friends and others. I can do more than just light lamps... I want to go on more adventures, but to do that, I need to learn to fight."
Garwin raises an eyebrow, "Eh? You do, huh? Sounds like you were pretty handy out on an adventure already. Fightin' ain't all that glamorous, though." He folds his arms and nods to himself. "Still... would be nice seein' you more."
Kira nods. "I know I can't 'bust heads' like you and the others sometimes say, but I want to be able to keep my friends safe... give them time to get away at least."
Garwin chuckles, "That's usually my line, squirt! I'm the big guy who buys time for everyone." He shrugs, setting his hands down on his legs as he sits and thinks. "Ah well, I'll help you however I can, Kira, cause it sounds like you've got the right idea of it."
Kira laughs. "Yes... I'm getting a sword made... a long thin one... Captain Louma calls it a 'sting'. I've seen others fight with similar weapons, and I think it will suit me." She flutters around Garwin excitedly. "I've made so many friends lately and I want to be able to help them all..."
Garwin can't help but get excited for Kira as well, "Good! You used to be so lonely lookin' it broke my heart. And there's nothing wrong with wanting to help folks and keep them safe. That's why I wanted to get back to duty as quick as I could."
Kira lands on the dummy's head again. "Yes... I was scared of most big folks other than you and Louma... but now I have more friends... I even share my home with one now!"
Garwin chuckles, "Oh? Weren't you livin' in the old Sula place? Up in the attic? Where'd ya move to! I wanna see!"
Kira blinks. "Same place, but the house was bought and so now I live there with the new owner. She's a very nice snake named Xochi. We spend lots of time together."
Garwin nods, "Oh! Like Cap'n, but with the snake part on top, eh? Oh, and the bottom too, I guess. I'll have to meet her! Any friend of yours is a friend of ol' Garwin's!"
Kira laughs. "She's very nice... and she honors the sun and moon like I do, so I know she's a good person."
Garwin chuckles quietly and looks up towards the rising moon. "Is that so, eh? I just think the moon's pretty and the sun is nice too, but I've never been smart enough to know any kind of big truths. I'm just happy you've got some folks who care about you." He points a thumb to his chest. "Including me, of course."
Garwin stands up, picking up his mace and hanging it from his belt. "Ah, but first thing first, I think I better head up to the wall before I'm late. You wanna come along?"
Kira nods. "Yes... it's been so long since we talked... there's much to discuss!"
Garwin grins as Kira flutters along with him, the two catching up on events in Respite as Garwin heads up the wall to begin their patrol together.
