OLDHAMMER SMITHY - EARLY MORNING
----------------------------------------------
Cavro pushes the 'customer' door fully open, leaving it as such as he steps into the smithy with the full intention of finally returning to work. He looks about the smithy, smiling with a nod at the tidy workshop. "I I I left you in good hands, then, old friend." he mutters as he steps up to the workbench. With a sigh of relief at the normalcy of the morning, he sets about his old routine prep work.
Kira is on her way home from her nightly rounds. Sadly, no one was training at the training grounds when she checked in, so she decided to take a lazy flight through town for no particular reason.
Cavro puts on his gloves, humming happily to himself as he steps up to the forge, pulling the gloves tight before lying on his back and dragging himself into the huge stone oven. With not a crack in sight, the badger hauls a bucket of kindling and coal over, making a neat pile. He hums ever happier as he lights a simple torch, holding it to the kindling and watching the equally happy fire start before dropping the torch in.
Kira sees the first wisps of smoke escaping the smithy's chimney and decides to fly over toward it. Upon seeing the badger at work, she waits for a moment where she won't take Cavro by surprise before announcing her presence. "Ah, good morning friend. It has been some time."
Cavro turns away from the forge toward the voice, grinning when he sees Kira there. "Good morning... Kira! Yes, it it it has been a while, sorry!" He steps aside and a few paces toward Kira, completely unobscuring the view of the forge from the customer door. "How have you you you been, friend?"
Kira flutters in and lands on the workbench, giving a little greeting bow to Cavro. "I have been most well! I went on an adventure and now I'm learning how to fight!"
Cavro returns the greeting with a nod, though he pauses at her announcement. "Ah really? I I I didn't know you were so adventurous! Hold on... Was your adventure with the the the flower expedition?"
Kira nods excitedly. "Yes! I helped to find the blue flower and the missing guards. I heard that a cure has now been found so they can return to normal. I'm very happy for Erika and the others."
Cavro smiles widely and his vision fogs up, stepping forward to hug Kira. "Oh thank you! Thank you! All of of of you helped Erika so greatly, I I I don't know how to repay you all!"
Kira lets out a little squeak as she's hugged. Once she's sure she won't be crushed, she hugs back as best she can, mostly just hugging one of Cavro's arms. "We did it to help our friends. Seeing them whole again will be enough."
Cavro is careful, letting Kira out of the surprise hug quickly. "S-sorry! But I I I can't just do nothing. You said you you you are learning to fight? I can make you a a a moth-sized weapon!"
Kira blinks at Cavro. "Ah, but I already asked the wolf to do that for me... of course I suppose having a spare weapon would be good." She cocks her head a bit and blinks, thinking. "I won't say no to your offer, but you don't have to do this..."
Cavro hangs his head a bit. "Oh... I wouldn't want to to to take away from Ragnarr's work... I I I want to pay you back, all of of of you. I'll think of something else." He finds his smile again, unable to keep that minor funk in the face of everything else.
Kira shakes her head. "No, I would still pay him for what he makes. He started already... but I'm sure you'll think of something." She cocks her head, thinking again. "Oh... perhaps a new lantern? My current one is starting to rust a little and has some dents..."
Cavro grins, nodding. "A a a new lantern it is, then! Er... After I do a little catch up on on on other orders, of course..." He chuckles, glancing toward the forge to check it's progress. The coal is well into burning at this point.
Kira nods. "Of course. I can bring my current lantern by for you to look at some day, if you like. When you have time, though." She looks to the forge and flutters over toward it. "Ah... it is so nicely warm..."
Cavro nods, walking to the forge to stand with her. "Yes. I I I've gotten used to Respite's weather a bit, but I I I really do long for the heat of the smithy again." He pulls a lever twice, coal dropping from one of two hoppers into the fire. "So what have have have you learned so far?"
Kira flies back a bit at the blast of heat from the coal hitting the fire. "Oh... I've seen many techniques and styles and decided the one I want to try." She goes on to talk a bit about her plans and the weapon she wants.
Cavro lets out a noise of surprise as Kira is pushed back, but chuckles when she recovers and continues the conversation like nothing happened. He nods along, though not knowing much of combat from experience, he instead offers suggestions on basic maintenance of weapons and gear.
Kira listens to the suggestions and smiles. "Ah, that's good to know... I'll make sure to keep my new things well oiled and clean, then..."
Cavro nods, sitting on the mantle of the forge to the side of it's mouth. "I hope you enjoy your new job. I I I suppose the generator being back on has sort of left you with a a a little less to do, hmm?"
Kira nods. "Yes. It's not a job yet. I still need to prove myself to Louma, so this is a first step." They give a little yawn and smile. "But for now, I think I should return home and sleep."
Cavro smiles at the moth. "That is a a a job in itself. I look forward to to to your next visit, Kira. And to to to making your lantern!"
Kira gives Cavro a gentle hug on the shoulder. "I will return soon enough. Perhaps tonight if you are still working when my job begins..."
Cavro gently pats Kira, chuckling. "I I I don't think Erika will let me work that late for for for a while... But feel free to come by any time, friend."
Kira giggles. "May the sun bless your day, friend Cavro." She flutters back and heads out, eager to get home to her nook.
Cavro waves to the moth as she goes, chuckling to himself as he hops down from the mantle and turns back to the forge. With more happiness in him even than before, the badger pulls the lever to the second hopper, the powdered coke bringing the flame inside down before the bellows kick it into a roaring inferno.
