EDGE OF TOWN - MORNING

----------------------------------------------

Narrator: Morning comes with a bright and early sun, peering its way in the unfortunately dragon sized hole in Kyp's tent. He'd had his meal, gotten resupplied from the Inn, and retreated to the edge of the city, where he could make camp and not worry about the locals carrying wild tales of dragons about. Now, he stared up at the blue sky and reached an arm out, finding the sleeping creature. "you are more trouble than you are worth" he tells him and sits up wincing. His forearm was poorly bandaged from wrist to elbow in torn cloth and now that it was daylight, he needed to get it seen. First he strapped up the small dragon, and hoping his tent was fairly safe where it was, he headed into town without fanfare. He had taken note of the path he traveled in both coming and going, and before long he found himself at the front door of the clinic, the dragon perched on his hip, snoring. He clears his throat... then knocks.

Doc Plume is sitting at their desk, filling out paperwork after having seen a recently departed patient. At the sound of the knock, they look up from the work and call out. "Come in please. The door's unlocked." They look bad down to their paperwork and finish their last notes, blot the ink dry and then close the file and set it on a stack to be filed away.

Kyprin Kane runs his uninjured hand through his hair, checks on the dragon and pushes his way through the door, stopping once he was inside to look around. Phosyx, thankfully, kept sleeping, Kyprin tucking an arm against the little dragon as he says to the room he entered. "I was hoping I'd have a little more time before such a thing happened, but I fear I'm going to need a doctor today."

Doc Plume stands up and looks at Kyprin and his companion. "Ah... I see... So what exactly is the trouble?" They lead Kyprin over to the examination table and then steps to the sink in the corner to wash their hands thoroughly.

Kyprin Kane follows after Plume, moving to the examination table, his chuckle an awkward one. "Uhh, Well, He bit me, as these creatures are wont to do. But.. there's an issue." He stops to pry the sleeping dragon off his hip, sitting down next to it and gently stroking a finger down Phosyx's spine. "I've no hand at fixing injuries anyway but he's getting older now and they don't just sting.. They stay. This happened the night we met.." He starts to unwrap the bandage, which was sticky with dried blood and body fluids

Doc Plume picks up a pair of scissors to help cut away at the old bandage. "I see... so how long ago were you injured? Also is the beast venomous?"

Kyprin Kane thinks back, "Two days? perhaps three?" answering the first question easily. As the bandage fell away, the swollen limb is a darker shade than he'd had previously, and its clearly swollen around a set of bites, one near the wrist and one just below the elbow. "I think he must be. Whenever he bites me, it lasts days or weeks and I've gotten sick. He's never bitten me twice either, so this is the worst it's ever been." He winces as the bandage breaks open scabs.

Doc Plume cocks their head. "So you were injured when we met before... but yet you said nothing?" They poke near the wounds with a talon and then recoil at the sight of the pus that comes out. They step back to the corner of the room and put on the kettle. "There's definitely infection of some kind. So a good cleaning before anything else, possibly a lancing to drain excess fluids..."

Kyprin Kane laughs softly, "It never occured to me it would be a great fuss, honestly." His tone was congenial and honest. His eyes narrow at the talon poking him but otherwise shows no real outward show of pain. "That's not going to smell pleasant" his tone carries worry, his brow ridges pressing together. "I swear he's never been like this, he bites me occasionally but he's been running away, and getting into trouble for days now."

Doc Plume takes the kettle off the flame and closes the gas the moment is boiled. The water is poured into a clean washbasin and several cloths are put into the steaming water. "I see... maybe some kind of maturation? Like teenage rebellion?" After a minute, doc extracts one of the cloths from the water with tongs and wraps it snugly around the first wound both to clean the area and possibly draw out some of the infected liquids. The second one follows suit over the second wound as doc prepares a fleam, wiping it down with alcohol before stepping back over to Kyprin.

Narrator: Nostrils flare as those steaming clothes come at his arm, and despite his apparent bravery, Kyprin looks away once Plume starts to actually work. "I was hoping you might be able to take a look at him and tell me. I know you've never seen his kind, but maybe you could see something I do not." The dragon, unaware they speak about him, chuffs quietly and lays his muzzle on his paws. Kyp's look to him was nothing but endearing affection, "i appreciate the distraction little guy" he half-whispers. "This is going to hurt, isnt it?" he aims the question at Doc as they work.

Doc Plume unwraps the lower wound and uses the cloth to wipe away any residue. The soiled cloth is then dropped into a kidney dish next to the exam table. Doc pokes at the wound again and frowns. "Likely yes, especially if the phlebotomy doesn't work. In that case, I'll need to go in and clean it out by hand." Doc is about to press the fleam to Kyprin's skin when they pause and look over at the dragon. "It won't attack me for cutting into you, will it?"

Kyprin Kane nods, "I understand. I won't scream or anything, I've been through worse, and without the gift of a kind doctor." At the question however he goes "Ah err, yes" and his good hand digs in his pocket, awkwardly and one handed, he wraps a thick leather lace around the dragons muzzle and wraps his hand around it after. "I am so very glad you mentioned that. We will need to burn anything cloth my blood gets on as well, he can smell it for.. I cannot guess how far, but too far." A glance cast to Phosyx, who was half-lidded awake but seemed to be drifting off again "he should be okay now." Oh how he hopes that's true.

Doc Plume eyes the dragon warily for a moment before looking back to Kyprin's arm. "Right, so this will sting... and it may take some time for me to find a vein through the bite." The set the fleam into place. "In 3... 2..." the cut comes around the 1½ mark, however, the triangular blade carving in between the tooth marks and pressing deeper to encourage blood flow over and through all parts of the wound. Once Doc is satisfied that the blood is flowing fine, they move the kidney dish under the wound so that the blood can drip freely over the already soiled cloth.

Kyprin Kane gave a small flinch, air hissing through his teeth in an almost perfect mimicry of the dragon, whos eyes pop open and a loud audible hiss explodes from the young reptilians hand. He squeezed a little more firmly, and reassures them before they can worry, "He's just mad because he smells it." His blood is a healthy scarlet color as it pours forth when encouraged with a few extra stabs, and the dragons legs shift under him but he stays where he is for the moment. After a deep breath he looks at Plume and cocks a grin, "ow"

Doc Plume watches the blood flow and frowns a bit. They stick a metal probe into one of the bite marks to see if there is more pus or filth to come. More is knocked loose, so doc takes a few moments to irrigate all of the bite marks in the same way until the blood is running cleanly again. After about half a minute of clean flow, a pad of thick gauze is pressed down over the wound and held there tightly by both of Doc's hands. "Normally I'd have you hold this, but I think your other hand is more reasonably occupied."

Kyprin Kane focuses on deep breathing and holding the now snarling little dragon at bay. When Phosyx starts to scrabble on the table, that hand yanks him very gently against the reptilians side and he says firmly, "NO. This is GOOD!" it was a useless endevor but now the dragon was incapable of scrambling away at least. He gives a hearty laugh to Plumes words, grinning at them. "I do reckon you'd regret me letting go right this second!"

Doc Plume binds the gauze down temporarily with a strip of cloth before moving the whole operation to the other bite mark. "All right, same thing up here, though with less poking around..." The now-cool wet cloth is taken off and used to wipe off any detritus before the wounds themselves are probed out and then the fleam used to start blood flowing over and through the other bite and then down into the dish. "Just hold that there with your elbow for the moment. I'll be right back. Doc moves over to the cabinet of supplies and returns with a pot of thick, dark, pungent paste and a slender piece of rope. They probe at the opened vein to encourage more bloodflow and then watches the blood for another minute or so. "I know this hurts, but this will make you better, trust me..."

Kyprin Kane takes a deep breath, air pulling in thrrough flaring nostrils and hissing out from between gritted teeth. At one point a prod hits a particularly sore spot and Phosyx, not Kyp, is the one who squeals, his companion's gripping hand holding his muzzle too sharply. He glances at the creature, and pointedly reduces his grip, mumbling through his teeth, "I'm sorry little one". This was a test of his strength and Kyprin is ready to face it. His eyes dialate until the yellow rings all but disappear as he focuses on the small dragon writhing in his hand and not his arm. His elbow is employed as directed and he even has a sort of smile on his face when the Doc comes back. "You are very gentle" gratitude in his voice.

Doc Plume ties the rope very tight around KyprinKane's upper arm as a tourniquet, then takes the final cloth from the bowl of hot water and uses it to wipe down the upper site. The gauze is then unwrapped and removed from the lower site before before the pot of pungent paste is raised up. Single-use wooden sticks take globs of the iodine paste and smear it liberally over both sites. "It stings a lot, I know... or it will once the tourniquet is off anyway." Doc then doesn't waste a moment in dressing and bandaging both areas snugly before finally undoing the tourniquet. Doc breathes out a little sigh. "It should be good now... if you experience excessive bleeding, swelling, or numbness come back at once." Doc carries the kidney tray loaded with its various bits of blood and detritus over to the sink before washing their hands thoroughly again.

Kyprin Kane closes his eyes, praying for patience in mouthed but silent words as the tourniquet is applied, and then medicine followed. He actually gives a yelp, his teeth squeaking against each other. Three deep breathes, a chugging engine inside the reptilian keeping him in one place, as the baby dragon slowly calms its fretting though its wild red eyes stare at the collections of Kyp's blood with a dangerous lust. Then he was bandaged, and released, a smile on his face as he tests the arm out and finds it much more mobile. "Bless your eyes Doc" he says, finally turning to scoop the little hellion in his arms, and hold him carefully by all four legs, his 16 inch body flipped upside down so he cradled into Kyp's good arm. "While he's muzzled, can you take a look Doc? I'm no magician and I can't make heads or tails of why he's after water, and bites when I touch his feet." Indeed, the little dragon was in paroxsyms of rage, his claws held harmlessly out of the way by a now stiff, but treated arm.

Doc Plume returns from the sink and takes a look at the dragon's underside. "Water seeking behavior indicates mild dehydration... They crouch down and cock their head to the side. "Ah yes, there's some cracked skin and rash under his legs... Also likely from the dehydration... I would make sure that he gets more water, as much as he wants, and you should spread something greasy on the cracked areas. If he's too likely to lick that off, I can add some bitter herbs to it." They stand back up. "I don't know too much about non-anthro species, but this was fairly obvious."

Kyprin Kane looks utterly relieved at this diagnosis and he plops the dragon back on all fours, pinning him down with a single broad hand on his muzzle again. "Oh skies bless us, is that all? I am remiss in my care of you little one!' he chides himself frustratedly, rubbing his brow. "he will definitely need something to keep him from licking it off, he is terrible about it, really." He rubs the grumbling muzzle of the dragon, still held shut by the leather strap, and his voice held real concern. "he will be okay though right? I didn't mean to neglect him, we've been traveling a while and.." he trails off. "I'm so sorry Phosyx" he leans down and presses his forehead to the skull of the dragon and curiously..it went quiet. He smiles and straightens, releasing his death grip on the dragon though he never let go of that mouth. His nostrils twitched and he thought he smelled something odd, his head swinging around several times to try and locate it, but he couldn't quite figure out what it was. He started to ask, then realised it was absolutely none of his business and instead dug in a pocket, pulling out one of those dragon stamped gold coins. "Is this enough? Its my biggest coin, I'm sorry." he chuckles wryly "its been a while since I worked a proper job, supplies getting low."

Doc Plume watches the odd display, but is mostly just relieved that the little monster is behaving itself now and that her patient seems to be better than when he came in. They take the coin in their hand and turn it over. "It's enough, yes... and it will cover the salve for your friend as well. I should be able to have that ready by tonight if you want to come back around sunset." They pocket the coin and look around. "Is something the matter? You seemed to be looking for something before?"

Kyprin Kane smiles broadly hearing he covered both stressors at once, and he scoops up the dragon, unmuzzling him and sticking him on his padded hip, adjusting his claws automatically. "You behave" he tells the calm dragling, before he looked at Doc, giving an awkward chuckle, his good hand rubbing his neck ridge. "I smelled the strangest thing you see, but .. I guess one expects to smell weird smells here." He nodded at the instructions, "We will stay in the area, if that's allright with you, even. He needs the exercise and I will enjoy exploring a little." He thought for a moment and then asked, very softly, "You don't happen to have clean water do you? My supplies are out, as of last night." He dug into his pocket producing another coin. "For the little one" jerking his head at Phosyx who was drifting to sleep gripped onto his reptilian hip.

Doc Plume nods. "Of course I do. I have an autopump and a filter... I can refill whatever you like." They lead their patient back toward the sink. "As for the smell, it might be my other patient." They nod to a curtained-off area right next to the sink. "It's that kobold I was telling you about before."

Kyprin Kane follows Plume back towards the sink, checking the material that sat in pockets or hung off his belt. Some were ordinary, a whet stone, a biscuit broken and uneaten, a small knife. and then! the small emergency bota he kept just for the dragon was yanked from the deep pocket where that corpse had been stuffed away the night he'd met the Doc, and his smile was triumphant. "Here, we can fill this for now and I'll bring back our proper kit when we come for the salve." He holds it out to them, pausing at that comment. "That.. would certainly explain what I smelled. It's.. different, and yet, it smells familiar too."

Doc Plume fills the bota and hands it back. "He's been through a lot, but I'm sure he'd be happy to meet you and your dragon once he's on his feet again." They look to the dish with all the waste. "You said something about your blood... would you like to deal with it, since you know what needs to be done?"

Kyprin Kane smiles warmly, holding the coin out for the water as he accepted the bota, but before he could even store it, Phosyx's eyes pop open and he emits a sort of mewling screech as the bota passes his face. The reptilian said "of course" and right then and there kneels on the floor, prying the dragon off his hip and pouring a small amount of water into his palm, clenched tight to prevent spillage. Rather than lap the water up, small scaley muzzle stuck itself into the palm and sucked up a drink, he poured two more before the dragon was sated and he scooped up the already falling asleep creature, tucking him under an arm this time. "yes, that'll probably be for the best. I'll bring it back with the water supplies. I can teach you how to do it another day, in case I become injured while I am staying here."

Doc Plume passes over the kidney dish. "Just bring back the dish. The rest you can dispose of." They watch the dragon with a smile. "The dehydration and cracked skin might explain some crankiness. I hope you both feel better soon."

NESSETH'S HOUSE - MIDDAY

----------------------------------------------

Nesseth is currently fast asleep on the roof of his house, having climbed up earlier in the day to enjoy some sun. He's resting atop a comfortable-looking wicker chaise lounge chair, dressed in nothing more than a pair of light shorts. Beside him, shaded by a little table, is a large jug of iced water that's been mostly untouched so far.

Vix is running from rooftop to rooftop to burn off some energy when she notices a certain sunbathing lizard out in the open. She skids to a stop and dives back over the side of the wall to peek at him from the ledge.

Nesseth is very obviously fast asleep, with his mouth partially open. Sharp ears can hear a soft snore coming from him with every breath. He seems pretty well out cold at the moment.

Vix lifts herself back to the roof and slowly, quietly approaches Nesseth.

Nesseth shifts a little, but continues to sleep soundly, unaware of any approaching trouble.

Vix crouches down on all fours and wiggles her butt a bit once she gets close enough. With a burst of energy, she pounces directly onto Nesseth's chest, giving him a fluffy body slam.

Nesseth gets the wind knocked clean out of him, leaving him breathless and flailing blindly as he wakes up with a wordless shout of surprise. On reflex, he reaches to the side, groping for a crossbow that isn't present, and instead grabs the jug of iced water. In his haste to try and "aim" the jug, he instead dumps the jug's contents over both himself and Vix...

Vix makes exactly the sound a cat makes when doused with ice water as she flails and scrambles away from Nesseth.

Damina happens to be wandering on the street nearby, and hears all the commotion. She gets the impression she should know exactly what's going up, and swiftly climbs up a wall to investigate.

Nesseth sits up, eyes shooting wide, suddenly shivering as the water seeps under his scales. He's breathing hard as he looks around at the source of both the sudden attack and the subsequent yowling.

Vix shakes the water out of her fur and pats her face. "Phew! That's was cold!"

Damina is now at the scene, and upon seeing the state both Vix and Nesseth happen to be in, lets out a quick laugh. "Heh, I wouldn't expect anything else from you, Vix."

Nesseth 's breathing starts to slowly calm down once he figures out he's not actually in danger. "V-Vix...? Wha--... that was you?!" He pats a hand against his chest, trying to urge his heart to slow down as well, "Gods... I thought I was about to have a heart attack..."

Vix chuckles as she shakes the water out of her hair one more time. "Sorry, had to prank ya~~"

Damina coughs a bit. "So, uh, what would you happen to be doing up here anyway?"

Vix: Just out on a walk~

Nesseth takes a moment to catch his breath again, then glances over at Damina as well. "And... oh, hi, Damina..." He sighs, still calming down, "Just... I was just sunbathing and... I guess catching up on a bit of sleep."

Damina nods. "You probably need it, a lot. As for me? Well, I've been busy moving in."

Nesseth shakes his head as he sets the jug back down on the little table next to his chair. "W-well, not really. I was up kind of late last night, helping Doc watch over a patient while they got some rest." He tilts his head a bit, "And... you're moving in...?"

Damina realizes she hasn't told most people yet. "Oh- yeah, I decided since I'm gonna be sticking around for a while, I'm gonna buy a house. Not much stuff to put in there but I'm working on it. And I was kinda thinking of showing some people, but... eh."

Vix slowly sneaks closer to Nesseth as the conversation goes on. "A house? Wow, you must be pretty well off~"

Damina: "Well, I got a lot of gold saved up for... no reason."

Nesseth hums and nods. "Oh, so you're going to make the stay a bit more permanent, then? Uh, welcome to Respite Falls, in that case, Damina."

Damina nods, and slides on over, making a seat next to those other two weirdos she happens to be friends with.

Vix clings onto Nesseth's arm, pressing her modest chest against it. "Need any help with furniture or anything?"

Damina narrows her eyes quite conspicuously. "Why? Do you happen to have any just lying around?"

Vix: Nope! But I know where you can find some~

Nesseth scoots to make some space as the two cats decide to join him on the chair, only to blink at Vix as she latches onto his arm. "Nothing on my end, unfortunately, but maybe Vix would know? Other than that, there might be a carpenter or two in town that makes furniture you can buy. We could help you move anything you purchase into the house, if you like."

Narrator: Somehow Vix's response only makes Damina even more suspicious.

Vix examines Damina's expression and shrugs. "Guess that's a no~"

Narrator: And now it completely vanishes off her face.

Damina: "Anyway, if you want to come visit, go ahead and ask me."

Nesseth shrugs a little, finding the gesture a little harder to pull on the side Vix is clinging to. "If you don't mind, it'd be kind of nice to drop by for a visit one day."

Damina: "Yeah sure, you can come visit anytime. 'Course I'd actually have to show you where it is."

Vix: I can find it either way~

Damina: "...no, I don't think you will."

Nesseth chuckles a bit. "I think it'd be less rude to at least let her show you the first time, Vix."

Damina: "Also why are you glued to him so much? Is there a problem?"

Vix sticks out her tongue. "You sound jealous~"

Damina: "Nah."

Damina: "You just look weird doing that."

Nesseth wiggles his arm a bit, to no avail. "I don't really mind it, myself. If she wants to cling on, she's welcome to." He pauses, then shoots Vix a bit of a look, "As long as you aren't trying to pick my pocket or anything."

Vix gasps. "What! I don't pick pockets!"

Nesseth smirks. "I know, I'm just joking~"

Damina slowly walks on over and decides to pet Vix. Yes! actually pets the other cat!

Vix purrs, quite used to pets by now.

Nesseth chuckles and joins in on the pets, though he uses the hand on the arm Vix is currently clinging to.

Vix reflexively extends her claws as Nesseth rubs her sensitive belly. "Mmm~"

Damina: "Anyway... wanna come on over? I brought drinks over there and other stuff."

Nesseth smiles at Damina, still lightly scritching Vix with his claws. "Sure, if you don't mind waiting a few minutes for me to change."

Damina nods. "Fair, fair. You might wanna leave him alone for that, Vix."

Vix giggles. "I dunno, I'm soaked, too~"

Damina struggles to restrain her laughter. "Oh no, not another bathhouse incident!"

Nesseth smiles sheepishly. "Uh... yeah, sorry about the soaking, by the way..."

Vix sticks out her tongue. "Not sorry about pouncing you~"

Nesseth shakes his head in amusement. "Well, regardless, I'll grab you a towel so you can dry off." He glances between Vix and Damina, "And if you two want, you guys can grab a snack while I change."

Damina: "Mmmh... I could use a little snack."

Vix nods. "Don't mind if I do~"

Nesseth lightly pokes Vix's belly as he makes to stand up. "Alrighty, let's head down for a couple of minutes." He grins, "Then we can check out Damina's new place!"

Vix squeaks and digs her claws into Nesseth's arm.

Nesseth gets up and makes his way towards the back of the house, where there's a ladder leading down to the rear yard. He chuckles at Vix. "Sorry, Vix, but you're gonna have to let go if I want to get down."

Vix reluctantly lets go. "Aww..."

Damina: "Probably for the best now that I think of it."

Nesseth raises his newly released arm and pats Vix, then gives Damina a curious look. "Oh? Why's that?"

Damina: "Because. Imagine changing your clothes with a four foot tall cat clinging on ya"

Nesseth laughs and nods as he swings down onto the ladder and begins his short descent to the ground. "Fair enough!"

Vix blushes as she imagines this

Damina ponders for a moment. "How would that work?"

Nesseth calls up as he lands on the ground below. "Either we'd have to help each other get dressed, or she'd just have to jump from one arm to the other."

Vix hops down to the ground and lands nimbly next to Nesseth, immediately clinging onto his arm again. "Right! We'd make it work~"

Damina: "Damn, you're persistent."

Nesseth oofs as Vix seems to immediately gravitate towards his arm again. "Heh... you don't seem all that bothered by the idea..."

Vix: Sounds fun, actually!

Damina: "Wait, you're not serious..."

Nesseth shrugs a bit, then waves for Damina to come down. "Well, I mean, we've already been to the bathhouse, right?"

Damina: "...I suppose. Sure, let's do this."

Nesseth leads the way into his house through the back door, which opens into the kitchen area. He gestures around a bit. "Snacks are in the cupboards, so feel free to grab a quick bite while I change. Vix, there's a towel in the bathroom you can use to dry off."

Vix zips through the house, quickly grabbing a towel and a bit of jerky.

Nesseth chuckles and shakes his head as the door to the bathroom shuts, then makes his way to his bedroom, just across from the bathroom. "I'll be right back, Damina. Make yourself at home."

Damina sniffs the air, smelling the jerky. "Ooh, I want me some of that..."

----------------------------------------------

A FEW MINUTES LATER

----------------------------------------------

Vix lounges on the couch, covered by a slightly damp towel as she munches on some crackers she found.

Nesseth sighs as he steps out of his bedroom, now wearing some of his usual day wear. He takes a moment to fold his towel up, then sets it on a dresser just outside of the bathroom. "There we go. Now, then..." He looks around a moment, "I'm guessing Damina's still in the kitchen?"

Damina actually walks out just about then.

Nesseth nods. "Ah, yup. Well, I think we're good to go. Vix?"

Vix drapes the towel over the back of the couch and stretches. "Let's go~"

Damina looks around quickly. "Oh, before we go, wanna take anything?"

Nesseth tilts his head at the question. "Such as?"

Damina shrugs a bit. "Snacks or anything. Just in case."

Nesseth shrugs. "Some snacks might not be a bad idea, sure. I'll pack up a small bag."

Vix tilts her head. "Do you not have food at your house, Damina?"

Damina: "I got plenty but they might not be to your taste."

Nesseth wanders into the kitchen and starts gathering some snack food into a small pack. Once he's finished, he steps back into the living room with the pack tied to his belt. "Right. Lead on, Damina."

Damina turns around, and heads out, making sure that the others are following.

Nesseth sets off after Damina, gesturing for Vix to tag along.

Vix follows along, opting not to cling to Nesseth for now~
